New 63,500 SF recreational facility for 3,000 students. Because of adjacent landmark buildings and in order to maintain height restrictions mandated by the Master Plan, the 3 story facility was built into a mountainside of the Palisades. Installation of the foundation required the excavation of 15,000 cubic yards of hard rock. The team conducted extensive boring reports and open-pit investigations and found that a mechanical method of loosening the rock was a viable alternative to blasting, thus saving the client over $1 million.
